Duties and Responsibilities

Research and Development

Field Trials and Experiments

  • Conducting field trials to test new crop varieties, fertilizers, and pest control methods.

  • Designing experiments to improve crop yield and quality.

  • Collecting and analyzing data from trials to draw conclusions and make recommendations.

Soil and Plant Analysis

  • Analyzing soil samples to determine nutrient content and composition.

  • Assessing plant health and diagnosing issues related to soil, water, and nutrients.

  • Developing strategies for soil improvement and fertility management.

Advisory and Consultancy

Farm Management Advice

  • Advising farmers on best practices for crop production.

  • Providing recommendations on crop rotation, irrigation, and fertilization.

  • Offering guidance on sustainable farming practices and conservation methods.

Problem Solving

  • Identifying and diagnosing plant diseases, pest infestations, and other crop issues.

  • Recommending effective pest control and disease management strategies.

  • Advising on the use of agrochemicals and integrated pest management (IPM).

Practical Implementation

Crop Planning and Management

  • Assisting in the planning of crop cycles and selecting appropriate crop varieties.

  • Implementing precision agriculture techniques to enhance efficiency.

  • Monitoring crop growth and development to ensure optimal conditions.

Soil and Water Management

  • Designing and implementing soil conservation practices.

  • Managing irrigation systems and advising on water use efficiency.

  • Developing and promoting methods to prevent soil erosion and degradation.

Education and Training

Farmer Training Programs

  • Organizing workshops, seminars, and training sessions for farmers.

  • Educating farmers on new agricultural technologies and techniques.

  • Providing ongoing support and technical advice.

Community Outreach

  • Working with agricultural extension services to disseminate information.

  • Building relationships with local farming communities and stakeholders.

  • Participating in agricultural fairs and exhibitions to share knowledge.

Policy and Advocacy

Policy Development

  • Contributing to the development of agricultural policies and regulations.

  • Collaborating with government agencies and agricultural organizations.

  • Advocating for sustainable agricultural practices and environmental protection.

Compliance and Standards

  • Ensuring adherence to agricultural standards and regulations.

  • Advising on compliance with environmental and safety guidelines.

  • Promoting the adoption of certified organic and eco-friendly practices.

Innovation and Technology

Adoption of New Technologies

  • Keeping abreast of advancements in agricultural technology.

  • Encouraging the use of precision agriculture tools such as GPS, drones, and sensors.

  • Implementing data-driven farming practices to optimize productivity.

Sustainability Initiatives

  • Promoting sustainable farming practices to reduce environmental impact.

  • Encouraging the use of renewable energy sources and resource conservation.

  • Supporting initiatives that enhance biodiversity and ecosystem health.

Data Management and Reporting

Data Collection and Analysis

  • Collecting data on crop performance, soil health, and environmental conditions.

  • Using data analytics to identify trends and make informed decisions.

  • Preparing reports and presentations to communicate findings.


  • Maintaining detailed records of experiments, trials, and field observations.

  • Documenting best practices and successful case studies.

  • Reporting on the effectiveness of recommended practices and interventions.

Qualification, Experiences and Competencies

  • Bachelor's degree in agriculture/plant science. 5 years agronomy experience idealy with large modern arable farms.

  • Extensive experience of forage crop production Exposure to devising and implementing structured trials.

  • Extensive experience of best practice regarding pesticide application.

  • Knowledge of pesticides, their suitability and Irrigation

  • Exposure to computerized record management system
