About the Organization
The U.S. Mission to the United Nations (USUN) serves as the United States’ delegation to the United Nations. USUN is responsible for carrying out the nation’s participation in the world body. In 1947 the United States Mission was created by an act of Congress to assist the President and the Department of State in conducting United States policy at the United Nations. Since that time, USUN has served a vital role as the Department of State’s UN branch. Today, USUN has approximately 150 people on staff who serve to represent the United States’ political, economic and social, legal, military, public diplomacy and management interests at the United Nations.
USUN is divided into the following sections – Executive; Washington; Political; Management and Reform; Economic and Social; Legal; Military Staff; Public Affairs; Host Country; Management; and Security.
The United States Mission to the United Nations is located at 799 United Nations Plaza (between E. 44th and E. 45th on First Ave) across the street from United Nations Headquarters.
Job Description
The U.S. Mission in Uganda is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the positions of Chauffeur.
The work schedule for this position is:
Full Time, 45 hours per week
Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (4 weeks) following receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.
Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent operates safely and efficiently an unarmored U.S. Government-owned or leased motor vehicle to transport passengers and/or cargo. Works as messenger as directed.
Transportation Services
Driving: Transport clients to their destinations in a safe, timely, and comfortable manner.
Navigation: Plan routes, consider traffic conditions, and use GPS systems to avoid delays.
Vehicle Maintenance
Inspection: Regularly inspect the vehicle to ensure it is in good working condition.
Cleaning: Keep the vehicle clean both inside and out to maintain a professional appearance.
Servicing: Schedule and perform routine maintenance, such as oil changes, tire rotations, and checking fluid levels.
Qualification, Experiences and Competencies
EDUCATION:
Completion of high school education is required.
Requirements:
EXPERIENCE:
At least three years of professional driving experience is required.
JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Must have a good working knowledge of the city and its environs, including driving routes and traffic patterns.
Must be familiar with the location of hospitals, police and fire stations within the city and its immediate surroundings.
Evaluations: (This may be tested)
LANGUAGE:
English level II (Limited knowledge) Reading/Writing/Speaking is required.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must hold a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 5 years with capability to operate a Manual Vehicle. Must have the ability to read maps and plan driving routes.
Must have good verbal communication skills, and an ability to handle all persons with professionalism and discretion.
Must be able to perform basic vehicle inspection and must possess intermediate level automotive maintenance skills.
Must have basic computer skills to maintain reports and for communication purposes.
