About the Organization
The AIDS Support Organization (TASO) is an indigenous HIV and AIDS service initiative, registered in Uganda as a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO). It is a pioneer non-public actor in the HIV and AIDS response in Uganda and sub Saharan Africa. TASO is a membership organisation with over 4,000 subscriber members.
Since inception in 1987, TASO grew into a household name in the HIV and AIDS response in the country. It is now one of the largest institutions providing the most comprehensive HIV prevention, care and support services.
Job Description
To provide HIV Counselling and Psychosocial services to clients, their families and community members, mobilize and support communities to respond to the HIV epidemic, and to provide ART with its related field services to enrolled TASO clients.
Duties and Responsibilities
Comprehensive HIV counselling and Psychosocial services provided
ARVs and other prophylactic drugs delivered to TASO clients on ART and adherence ensured.
HIV Prevention services provided
Screening for mental health, GBV, NAC conducted.
Clients on ART mapped and CDDPs / CCLAD established.
Clients empowered with skills for self-reliance
Clients referred and linked to appropriate medical and psychosocial services
Index testing provided
Health Education talks conducted
Client support groups established and supported
OVC households supported in at least four Core Program areas
Increased identification of new positives and linkage into care ensured
Qualification, Experiences and Competencies
Education and Training
Educational Background: A master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field is typically required. Specialization in child and adolescent psychology or counseling is highly preferred.
Licensure: State licensure or certification as a professional counselor (e.g., Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or equivalent). Additional certifications in pediatric and adolescent counseling are advantageous.
Training: Completion of supervised clinical training or internship in pediatric and adolescent counseling.
Experience
Clinical Experience: Several years of experience working with children, adolescents, and families in a clinical setting. Experience in schools, hospitals, mental health clinics, or private practice is valuable.
Specialized Experience: Experience dealing with specific issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, behavioral disorders, and developmental challenges in children and adolescents
