Job Description
Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) is a non-profit biomedical research organization, whose mission is to mitigate disease threats through quality research, health care and disease surveillance. MUWRP was established in 2002 by a Memorandum of Agreement between The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Inc. (HJF) and Makerere University (Mak) undertake medical research to test HIV vaccines. Over the years, MUWRP's portfolio has progressively expanded to include vaccine research for Ebola and Marburg viruses, Emerging Infectious Diseases Program (EIDP) for surveillance of influenza and influenza-like viruses and other emerging infections in humans and animals; also, a PEPFAR funded program in HIV treatment, care and prevention in the districts of Kayunga, Mukono, Buvuma, Buikwe, Luwero, Nakasongola. Additionally. MUWRP seeks to fill the following position.
Contract Tenure: 1 year with a possibility of extension subject to the needs of the Organization
Duties and Responsibilities
Data Management
Data Collection: Designing and implementing data collection tools and methodologies to capture relevant information on prevention activities, interventions, and outcomes.
Data Entry: Ensuring timely and accurate entry of data into databases or information systems.
Database Management: Maintaining and updating databases to ensure data integrity, security, and accessibility.
Data Cleaning: Performing data cleaning and validation procedures to identify and rectify errors or inconsistencies in data sets.
Data Analysis and Reporting
Analysis: Analyzing collected data using statistical software and techniques to identify trends, patterns, correlations, and insights relevant to prevention efforts.
Report Preparation: Generating regular reports, dashboards, and visualizations to communicate findings to stakeholders, program managers, and decision-makers.
Data Interpretation: Interpreting data analysis results to provide actionable recommendations for program improvement and decision-making.
Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E)
M&E Framework: Supporting the development and implementation of M&E frameworks specific to prevention programs.
Indicator Tracking: Tracking program indicators and milestones to assess progress towards prevention goals and objectives.
Impact Assessment: Contributing to impact assessments and evaluations to measure the effectiveness and impact of prevention interventions.
Quality Assurance
Quality Control: Implementing quality assurance measures to ensure data quality, accuracy, and completeness.
Compliance: Ensuring adherence to data protection regulations and organizational data management policies.
Capacity Building and Technical Support
Training: Providing training and technical support to staff and partners on data collection protocols, data management systems, and data analysis techniques.
Technical Assistance: Offering guidance and troubleshooting support to resolve data-related issues and challenges.
Collaboration and Communication
Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, including program teams, researchers, and community partners, to coordinate data collection efforts and share findings.
Communication: Communicating data-related insights and recommendations effectively through written reports, presentations, and meetings.
Qualification, Experiences and Competencies
Educational Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree: A bachelor’s degree in statistics, public health, epidemiology, social sciences, or a related field is typically required.
Specialization: Additional coursework or certifications in data management, statistics, or public health informatics is advantageous.
Professional Experience
Experience: At least 2-3 years of experience in data management and analysis, preferably in a healthcare, public health, or prevention-focused environment.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., SPSS, R, SAS), database management systems (e.g., SQL, Excel), and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
Healthcare Context: Familiarity with healthcare systems, prevention strategies, and public health principles is beneficial.
Skills and Competencies
