Duties and Responsibilities
Patient Care:
Examinations and Diagnoses:
Conduct comprehensive oral examinations to assess patients' dental health.
Diagnose dental conditions such as cavities, gum disease, oral cancers, and other dental issues.
Treatment Planning:
Develop and discuss treatment plans tailored to the patient's needs.
Explain treatment options and procedures to patients.
Preventive Care:
Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, such as brushing, flossing, and dietary habits.
Provide preventive treatments like fluoride applications and dental sealants.
Perform routine cleanings to remove plaque and tartar buildup.
Restorative Care:
Treat cavities with fillings and other restorations.
Perform root canal treatments to save infected or damaged teeth.
Place crowns, bridges, and other prosthetics to restore function and aesthetics.
Surgical Procedures:
Extract teeth that are severely decayed, damaged, or impacted.
Perform oral surgeries such as dental implants and corrective jaw surgeries.
Treat trauma to the mouth and teeth.
Cosmetic Dentistry:
Enhance the appearance of patients' smiles through procedures like teeth whitening, veneers, and bonding.
Correct misaligned teeth with orthodontic treatments or referrals to specialists.
Periodontal Care:
Diagnose and treat gum diseases such as gingivitis and periodontitis.
Perform deep cleaning procedures like scaling and root planing.
Provide periodontal surgeries when necessary.
Pediatric Dentistry:
Provide specialized care for children, including examinations, cleanings, and preventive treatments.
Educate children and parents about proper oral hygiene habits.
Address issues related to tooth development and alignment.
Radiographic and Diagnostic Services:
Take and interpret dental X-rays to identify problems not visible during a clinical examination.
Use other diagnostic tools like intraoral cameras and digital imaging.
Emergency Care:
Provide prompt treatment for dental emergencies such as toothaches, broken teeth, and abscesses.
Manage acute dental trauma and pain.
Collaboration and Referrals:
Collaborate with dental specialists (orthodontists, periodontists, endodontists, oral surgeons) for specialized care.
Refer patients to other healthcare providers when necessary.
Administrative Duties:
Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including medical history, treatment plans, and progress notes.
Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and dental practice standards.
Oversee dental practice management, including scheduling, billing, and staff supervision.
Continuing Education:
Stay updated with advancements in dental technology, techniques, and research.
Participate in continuing education courses and professional development activities.
