Duties and Responsibilities
System Design and Implementation:
Design and develop DCS architecture to meet process control requirements.
Configure DCS hardware and software to optimize system performance.
Develop and implement control strategies and logic for process automation.
Installation and Commissioning:
Oversee the installation of DCS hardware and software.
Conduct system integration and ensure proper communication between DCS components.
Perform commissioning activities, including testing and validation of control systems.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
Perform routine maintenance and updates on DCS systems.
Diagnose and resolve issues related to DCS hardware, software, and communication networks.
Implement corrective actions to ensure system reliability and minimize downtime.
Process Optimization:
Monitor and analyze system performance data to identify opportunities for improvement.
Optimize control strategies to enhance process efficiency, safety, and product quality.
Collaborate with process engineers to implement best practices and process improvements.
Safety and Compliance:
Ensure all DCS activities comply with industry standards and safety regulations.
Develop and enforce safety procedures for working with DCS systems.
Conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures to mitigate hazards.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate documentation of DCS configurations, control logic, and system changes.
Prepare technical reports and manuals for system operation and maintenance.
Report on system performance, maintenance activities, and project progress.
Training and Support:
Provide training to operators and maintenance personnel on DCS operation and troubleshooting.
Offer technical support and guidance to the operations team.
Develop training materials and standard operating procedures for DCS systems.
Project Management:
Manage DCS-related projects from planning to execution.
Develop project plans, schedules, and budgets.
Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure successful project completion.
Qualification, Experiences and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
Professional certification or licensure (e.g., Professional Engineer, Certified Automation Professional) is advantageous.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in DCS platforms (e.g., Emerson DeltaV, Honeywell Experion, Siemens PCS 7, Yokogawa CENTUM).
Strong knowledge of process control principles, instrumentation, and automation technologies.
Experience with programming and configuring DCS systems, including control logic development and HMI design.
Experience:
Relevant work experience in DCS engineering, typically 3-5 years.
Experience in industries such as oil and gas, chemical processing, power generation, or manufacturing is highly desirable.
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues related to DCS systems.
Strong analytical skills to interpret process data and optimize control strategies.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
Excellent communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Ability to convey technical information to non-technical personnel clearly.
Attention to Detail:
Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in system configuration and documentation.
Strong organizational skills for managing multiple projects and tasks concurrently.
Knowledge of Standards and Regulations:
Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., ISA, IEC) and regulations related to process control and automation.
Understanding of safety protocols and best practices in DCS engineering.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work in industrial environments, which may include exposure to noise, heat, and hazardous materials.
Capability to perform physical tasks such as climbing, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
