Duties and Responsibilities
Water Quality Testing and Analysis:
Conduct routine sampling and chemical analysis of boiler feed water, boiler water, and condensate.
Test for parameters such as pH, conductivity, hardness, alkalinity, dissolved oxygen, and various chemical contaminants.
Use laboratory equipment and techniques, including titration, spectrophotometry, and chromatography.
Chemical Treatment and Dosing:
Develop and implement chemical treatment programs to control corrosion, scaling, and fouling.
Calculate and adjust the dosing of chemicals such as oxygen scavengers, anti-scalants, and pH adjusters.
Monitor the effectiveness of chemical treatments and make necessary adjustments.
System Monitoring and Maintenance:
Monitor the boiler system's chemical parameters continuously and respond to any deviations from optimal levels.
Conduct inspections of the boiler system to identify potential issues related to water quality and chemical treatment.
Collaborate with maintenance teams to address issues like scaling, corrosion, and biological growth.
Data Recording and Reporting:
Maintain accurate and detailed records of water quality tests, chemical dosages, and system performance.
Prepare reports summarizing test results, treatment adjustments, and system health.
Use data to identify trends and recommend improvements to the chemical treatment program.
Compliance and Safety:
Ensure all water treatment practices comply with industry standards, environmental regulations, and safety protocols.
Conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures for handling and storing chemicals.
Stay informed about changes in regulations and best practices related to boiler water treatment.
Qualification, Experiences and Competencies
Education and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
Advanced certifications in water treatment or boiler chemistry are advantageous.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in laboratory techniques and the use of analytical equipment.
Strong understanding of water chemistry, corrosion, scaling, and fouling mechanisms.
Knowledge of chemical treatment programs and dosing calculations.
Experience:
Relevant work experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in industrial water treatment or boiler operations.
Experience in power plants, chemical plants, or other industrial facilities with boiler systems is highly desirable.
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
Ability to conduct precise and accurate chemical analyses.
Strong problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve water quality issues.
Analytical mindset to interpret data and make informed decisions.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
Excellent communication skills for reporting findings and recommendations.
Ability to work collaboratively with engineers, operators, and maintenance teams.
Skills in training and supporting other personnel in water treatment practices.
