Head, Technical Sales

Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Planning and Leadership
Sales Strategy Development: Develop and implement sales strategies to achieve company sales targets and objectives.
Market Analysis: Conduct market research and analysis to identify new business opportunities, market trends, and competitive landscape.
Leadership: Lead, mentor, and motivate the technical sales team to achieve their sales goals and objectives.
Sales Management
Sales Forecasting: Prepare sales forecasts and budgets, and monitor performance against targets.
Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, understanding their needs and providing tailored solutions.
Pipeline Management: Oversee the sales pipeline, ensuring timely follow-up on leads and opportunities to maximize conversion rates.
Technical Expertise and Support
Product Knowledge: Maintain in-depth knowledge of the company’s technical products and services.
Technical Presentations: Deliver technical presentations and demonstrations to prospective clients, highlighting product features and benefits.
Solution Design: Collaborate with clients to understand their technical requirements and design customized solutions that meet their needs.
Collaboration and Coordination
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, such as marketing, product development, and customer support, to ensure alignment and effective execution of sales strategies.
Feedback Loop: Provide feedback to the product development team based on client interactions and market demands to guide future product enhancements.
Reporting and Analysis
Sales Reporting: Prepare regular sales reports and presentations for senior management, highlighting achievements, challenges, and opportunities.
Performance Analysis: Analyze sales data and metrics to evaluate team performance, identify trends, and make informed decisions to improve sales processes.
Customer Satisfaction
Customer Support: Ensure that the technical sales team provides exceptional customer support and service, addressing any issues or concerns promptly.
Post-Sales Follow-Up: Oversee post-sales activities, including installation, training, and ongoing support, to ensure customer satisfaction and retention.
Qualification, Experiences and Competencies
Education and Experience
Educational Background: A bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, business, or a related field is typically required. An advanced degree (e.g., MBA) is often preferred.
Industry Experience: Extensive experience in technical sales, with a proven track record of achieving sales targets and managing sales teams. Experience in the relevant industry or sector is highly desirable.
Skills and Competencies
Technical Expertise: Strong technical knowledge of the company’s products and services, as well as the ability to understand and communicate complex technical concepts.
Sales Acumen: Excellent sales skills, including prospecting, negotiation, and closing deals.
Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a sales team.
Strategic Thinking: Ability to develop and execute strategic sales plans that align with the company’s goals.
Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and persuasively.
Customer Focus: Strong customer service orientation, with the ability to build and maintain positive client relationships.
Analytical Skills: Proficiency in analyzing sales data and metrics to make informed decisions and improve sales performance.
Certifications and Training
Sales Certifications: Certifications in sales methodologies or technical sales (e.g., Certified Professional Sales Person (CPSP), Certified Sales Leadership Professional (CSLP)) can be beneficial.
Technical Certifications: Relevant technical certifications may be required or preferred, depending on the industry (e.g., Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert).
Technical Proficiency
CRM Software: Proficiency in using Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot) to manage sales activities and track performance.
Sales Tools: Familiarity with sales and productivity tools (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, sales automation tools).
