Job Description
The holder of the position is charged with the responsibility for overseeing. definition of risk appetite, development, and implementation of risk assessments for new products, pricing of new and existing products, setting credit strategy and lending decisions, building state of the are scoring and further decision models running, impairment provision process and development of IFRS9 models, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, building and running a best in class collections function
Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Planning and Management
Develop Credit Policies and Procedures: Formulate and implement comprehensive credit policies, guidelines, and procedures that align with the organization's risk appetite and regulatory requirements.
Strategic Planning: Participate in strategic planning sessions to align the credit strategy with the overall business objectives of the organization.
Risk Management: Establish and manage credit risk management frameworks, ensuring the identification, assessment, and mitigation of credit risks.
Operational Oversight
Credit Approval: Oversee and, in some cases, approve large or complex credit applications, ensuring they meet the institution's credit standards.
Credit Portfolio Management: Monitor and manage the overall credit portfolio to maintain a balanced risk profile and achieve target returns.
Loan Review and Monitoring: Regularly review and monitor the performance of the loan portfolio, including early identification of potential problem loans.
Leadership and Team Management
Team Leadership: Lead and manage the credit department, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities to team members.
Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, such as sales, operations, and finance, to ensure a cohesive approach to credit management.
Compliance and Reporting
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all credit activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies.
Reporting: Prepare and present detailed reports on the credit portfolio’s performance, risk exposures, and compliance status to senior management and the board of directors.
Stakeholder Management
Customer Relationship Management: Maintain and build strong relationships with key clients, understanding their needs and providing tailored credit solutions.
External Relations: Liaise with regulators, auditors, and other external stakeholders to ensure the credit function meets all required standards.
Innovation and Improvement
Process Improvement: Continuously seek opportunities to improve credit processes and systems, enhancing efficiency and effectiveness.
Technology Integration: Leverage technology and data analytics to improve credit assessment, monitoring, and reporting processes.
Qualification, Experiences and Competencies
University degree in Economics, Statistics, Accountancy, Finance or related institution.
Master's degree in relevant field is an added advantage. Professional qualification in Credit risk management.
At least eight 181 years' experience in financial institution within the Credit function at an organization of similar and complexity, five (5) of which must be at at managerial level with experience in Credit, Risk Corporate lending, policy, credit analysis, credit approval Minter and leadership skills.
Thorough statistical analysis of underlying data requiring regression and t time series analyses.
Understanding of risk factors that impact the credit quality of portfolios. Strong understanding of quantitative credit risk modeling leg PDs, LGDs, EADS, vintage analysis, migration matrices), and good understanding of portfolio credit metrics such as limits, expected and unexpected loss, capital allocation.
Ability to work well under pressure and comfortably engage senior management.
Knowledge of data analysis, data modelling and validation tools.
