Job Description

Support the Bank’s Finance function in accordance with the established professional standards, policies and procedures and give a general strategic and operational guidance on all financial matters of the bank.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Financial Management: Oversee the financial management of the bank, ensuring adherence to Shariah principles. Be responsible for budgeting, financial planning, and forecasting to ensure the financial health and stability of the bank.

  • Shariah Compliance: Ensure that all financial activities and products offered by the bank are in accordance with Shariah principles.

  • Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate financial risks faced by the bank while ensuring that financial risk management practices comply with Islamic principles.

  • Financial Reporting: Responsible for preparing and presenting financial reports to stakeholders, including shareholders, regulatory authorities, management, and Shariah Advisory Board. These reports must accurately reflect the financial performance and position of the bank while adhering to Shariah guidelines.

  • Product Development: Collaborating with other departments, such as Business and marketing, the Head of Finance plays a key role in designing new Islamic financial products and services that meet the needs of customers while complying with Shariah principles.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that the bank complies with all relevant regulatory requirements, including capital adequacy ratios, liquidity requirements, and reporting standards.

  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to the strategic planning process of the bank, providing financial insights and analysis to support decision- making by the senior management team and the board of directors.

  • Treasury Operations: Manage liquidity and optimizing the bank's balance sheet. Oversee treasury operations, including cash management, liquidity management, and capital allocation, to ensure the efficient use of resources while maintaining Sharia compliance.


People

  • Directly supervise the activities of the Finance team within own unit to ensure achievement of set targets.

  • Responsible for delivering effective people management processes including performance management, talent management, training and staff career development and succession planning

Qualification, Experiences and Competencies

  • Minimum of a first Degree in Islamic Finance, Commerce, Accounting, Business Management or Administration or any other relevant field.

  • Full qualification in a professional accounting courses CPA

  • Solid computer competency in Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets, Word, and

  • PowerPoint, knowledge of accounting packages desired

  • A Master’s Degree in Islamic Finance, Commerce, Accounting, Business Management or Administration would be an added advantage.

  • Post graduate training in Leadership and/or Business Management

  • Industry specific training e.g., Islamic Finance, risk management, compliance etc

  • Membership of professional banking body (at Associate or Fellowship level) is an added advantage Skills & Experience

  • At least 10 years’ work experience, five of which should be in Senior Finance roles, in a busy commercial setting preferably a financial services institution or Insurance Industry.

  • A versatile individual with significant headroom and experience in various facets of management (operations, Business Growth, Strategic planning etc)

  • Demonstrable record of effectively leading large teams of people and track record of Performance Management.

  • Strong track record in financial management and growing business

  • Business Behaviors

  • Excellent communications and engagement skills.

  • Strong skills in stakeholder management and relationship building.

  • High level of integrity and strong entrepreneurial skills

  • Self-drive and initiative

  • Strong leader with soft skills.
