Job Description
Hello Hello! Alight is recruiting Legal Caseworker (1 position) for our programs in Uganda to be based at various fieldsites of (Nakivale). You’re interested in joining us? Welcome, we’re happy you’re here!
Duties and Responsibilities
Client Interaction:
Conducting initial client interviews to gather information about their cases.
Explaining legal processes and procedures to clients.
Maintaining regular communication with clients to update them on the progress of their cases.
Case Management:
Managing and organizing case files, ensuring all documents are accurate and up-to-date.
Tracking deadlines, court dates, and other important milestones in each case.
Coordinating with clients, attorneys, and other stakeholders to ensure case progression.
Research and Investigation:
Conducting legal research to gather information relevant to cases.
Investigating facts and evidence, including interviewing witnesses and collecting documents.
Summarizing findings and preparing reports for attorneys.
Documentation and Drafting:
Preparing legal documents such as affidavits, witness statements, and correspondence.
Drafting motions, pleadings, and other legal filings under the supervision of an attorney.
Ensuring all documents comply with legal standards and court requirements.
Court and Administrative Support:
Assisting in the preparation of cases for court, including organizing exhibits and evidence.
Attending court hearings and trials to provide support to attorneys and clients.
Filing documents with the court and other relevant agencies.
Legal Aid and Advocacy:
Providing support to clients seeking legal aid, including assessing eligibility and completing applications.
Advocating on behalf of clients in administrative hearings or negotiations, as permitted.
Assisting clients with understanding and navigating the legal system.
Liaison and Coordination:
Coordinating with other legal professionals, including paralegals, attorneys, and external experts.
Liaising with social services, government agencies, and other organizations on behalf of clients.
Facilitating communication between clients and legal teams.
Record Keeping and Data Management:
Maintaining accurate and confidential records of client information and case details.
Using case management software to track case progress and document interactions.
Ensuring compliance with data protection and confidentiality regulations.
Training and Professional Development:
Staying informed about changes in laws and regulations relevant to their cases.
Participating in training and professional development opportunities.
Sharing knowledge and best practices with colleagues and new staff members.
Administrative Duties:
Performing general administrative tasks such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, and managing correspondence.
Assisting with office management tasks, including maintaining supplies and equipment.

Reporting to the Legal Assistant, the Legal Case worker will be responsible for providing support in the implementation of legal activities in the Legal sector.
REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of a Diploma in Law from a recognized University.
Basic knowledge of the law is desirable
At least 1-year experience in advisory legal role in the refugee operation.
In addition to written and spoken English, fluency in Local Languages is an asset
