Job Description
Uganda Women’s Network (UWONET) is an advocacy and lobbying coalition of national women’s organisations, institutions and individuals in Uganda formed in 1993. Uganda Women’s Network membership comprises of 16 national women’s Organisations and individuals. UWONET stands to promote and enhance networking, collective visioning and action among membership and different actors working towards development and the transformation of unequal gender relations in Uganda.
Job Summary: The Legal Officer/District GBV Coordinator will play a critical role in supporting the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention and Response Programme at the Kamuli GBV Advisory Center. The successful candidate will coordinate legal and advocacy efforts, provide legal support to GBV survivors, and engage with community stakeholders to promote GBV prevention and response.
Duties and Responsibilities
Legal Support and Representation
Provide legal advice and representation to GBV survivors.
Assist survivors in navigating the legal system and accessing justice.
Prepare legal documents, including affidavits, petitions, and other necessary documentation.
Coordination and Advocacy:
Coordinate GBV prevention and response activities within the district.
Advocate for the rights of GBV survivors at the local and national levels.
Engage with local government, law enforcement, and other stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of GBV laws and policies.
Capacity Building:
Conduct training sessions for community leaders, law enforcement, and other stakeholders on GBV laws and survivor support.
Build the capacity of local organizations and community groups to respond to GBV.
Provide support supervision to all staff at the district.
Case Management:
Oversee the management of GBV cases, ensuring comprehensive support services for survivors.
Maintain accurate records and documentation of all cases handled.
Monitoring and Reporting:
Monitor the effectiveness of GBV prevention and response activities.
Prepare and submit regular reports on program activities and outcomes to the Programme Coordinator.
Qualification, Experiences and Competencies
A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Law and a post graduate diploma in legal practice, and must be an enrolled advocate of High Court. A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
Computer literacy is a must with strong knowledge of OUTLOOK, EXCEL and WORD
Ideal candidate should have a keen awareness and a good knowledge of working with communities.
Strong team building skills.
Experience in planning and implementing project activities.
Excellent report writing and documentation skills
Ability to confront and discuss sensitive issues with respect and confidentiality
Diplomacy and assertiveness
Ability to work under minimum supervision.
