Job Description
A Mechanical Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the proper functioning, safety, and efficiency of machinery and mechanical equipment in various industries.
Duties and Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance and Repair
Preventive Maintenance
Performing routine inspections and maintenance on mechanical systems and equipment.
Lubricating, adjusting, and replacing parts to prevent equipment failures.
Keeping maintenance records up-to-date.
Troubleshooting and Repair
Diagnosing mechanical issues and determining the root cause of equipment malfunctions.
Repairing or replacing defective parts such as bearings, gears, and shafts.
Using diagnostic tools and equipment to assess problems.
Installation and Commissioning
Installing new mechanical equipment and systems.
Ensuring proper alignment and calibration of machinery.
Testing equipment after installation to ensure it is functioning correctly.
Operational Support
Production Support
Assisting in the setup and operation of machinery for production processes.
Collaborating with production staff to optimize machine performance and minimize downtime.
Providing technical support during production runs.
Facility Maintenance
Maintaining the mechanical aspects of the facility, including HVAC systems, conveyors, and other mechanical infrastructure.
Ensuring the facility complies with safety and operational standards.
Safety and Compliance
Health and Safety
Following safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
Conducting safety inspections and risk assessments.
Implementing corrective actions to mitigate hazards.
Regulatory Compliance
Ensuring all mechanical equipment meets industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Keeping abreast of changes in safety regulations and standards.
Documentation and Reporting
Record Keeping
Documenting maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance.
Maintaining detailed records of equipment specifications and maintenance history.
Reporting
Reporting equipment status and maintenance activities to supervisors and management.
Providing recommendations for improving equipment performance and reliability.
Qualification, Experiences and Competencies
Education and Experience
Educational Background
High school diploma or equivalent.
Technical or vocational training in mechanical maintenance or a related field is preferred.
Experience
Previous experience in mechanical maintenance, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
Experience with a variety of mechanical systems and equipment.
Technical Skills
Mechanical Proficiency
Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, and HVAC.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
Diagnostic and Troubleshooting Skills
Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment.
Strong problem-solving skills to identify and resolve equipment issues efficiently.
