Job Description
These duties and requirements outline the essential responsibilities and qualifications expected of a Nitrogen & Hydrogen Plant Operator, who plays a critical role in the safe and efficient production of gases for various industrial applications.
Duties and Responsibilities
Operation and Monitoring: Operate and monitor nitrogen and hydrogen plant equipment and processes to ensure efficient production and distribution of gases.
Start-up and Shutdown: Perform start-up and shutdown procedures for plant operations, following established protocols and safety guidelines.
Process Control: Monitor and control process parameters such as pressure, temperature, flow rates, and chemical composition to maintain optimal operating conditions and product quality.
Troubleshooting: Identify and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, process deviations, and other operational issues, taking corrective actions to minimize downtime and ensure safety.
Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks, including equipment inspections, lubrication, calibration, and minor repairs, to ensure reliability and longevity of plant equipment.
Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), hazard communication, and emergency response protocols, to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
Quality Assurance: Conduct quality control checks on gases produced, including purity analysis and compliance with specifications, to ensure that products meet customer requirements and regulatory standards.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of plant operations, process parameters, maintenance activities, and product quality data, as required by regulatory agencies and company policies.
Communication: Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and other stakeholders regarding plant operations, maintenance needs, safety concerns, and production schedules.
Qualification, Experiences and Competencies
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required. Some employers may prefer candidates with vocational training, an associate degree, or certification in process technology, chemical engineering, or a related field.
Experience: Previous experience working in a similar role or in industrial plant operations is often preferred. Experience with gas processing, chemical manufacturing, or related industries may be particularly relevant.
Technical Skills: Knowledge of plant equipment, instrumentation, and control systems, as well as an understanding of chemical processes and principles of gas separation and purification.
Mechanical Aptitude: Basic mechanical skills for operating and maintaining plant equipment, performing troubleshooting and minor repairs, and recognizing signs of equipment wear or malfunction.
Safety Training: Training and certification in safety procedures, such as OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) standards, hazardous materials handling, and emergency response protocols.
Attention to Detail: Ability to monitor and interpret data from instrumentation, recognize abnormalities or deviations from normal operating conditions, and take appropriate corrective actions.
Physical Stamina: The role may involve standing, walking, climbing, and lifting heavy objects, so candidates should have the physical stamina and dexterity to perform tasks safely and effectively.
Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, communicating effectively, and supporting colleagues to achieve common goals and objectives.
Adaptability: Flexibility to work rotating shifts, weekends, or holidays as needed, and to adapt to changing production demands and operational priorities.
