JOB ROLE/ PURPOSE:
Monitors the different stages of design whilst it is developed to compare with the budget, and advises the client’s team of changes that impact the budget.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Preparing tender documents, contracts and bills of quantities and other specifications for engineering and construction projects
a) Prepare cost estimates to define the optimal quantity and price of the materials being used in construction.
b) working together with clients, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and consultants in identifying their specialties and scopes for the project
c) Coordinates with different parties to finalize the optimum prices for each element of the project.
d) Work with other stakeholders such as engineers, workers, and contractors to derive efficiencies in other areas of expense such as labor costs, construction costs, and construction methods.
e) Prepare Financial and Contract administration reports
2. Procure or agree on the services of subcontractors who work on the construction project
a) Make sure that the project’s costs remain within the stipulated budget.
b) Procure optimum value products with the best quality
c) Prepare frequent reports tracking the project costs to track financial progress.
d) Advise on selecting and/ or sourcing of construction materials.
e) Good understanding of Industry best practice for Surveyors and well versed with latest industry developments
f) Maintain good working relations with Statutory and functions for Surveyors
3. Coordinate Site visits and future projections of tasks ahead
a) perform risk, value management and cost control during construction
b) To track progress and compare it to the actual plan.
c) Analyzing the task requirements ahead of time
d) Gauge the performance of the entire team
e) Make any amendments if needed in the tasks ahead.
f) Prepare reports for management and critical stakeholders for Surveying activity
Qualification, Experiences and Competencies
PERSON SPECIFICATIONS
Essential Requirements
a) An honors bachelor’s degree or its equivalency in Quantity Surveying or Building Economics from a recognized academic institution.
b) At least three (03) years of experience in building construction, and design with a strong portfolio of completed projects across various sectors
c) An impeccable record of integrity and professionalism
Desirable Requirements
a) Professional affiliation with Institution of Surveyors Uganda
b) Good understanding of PPDA regulations
Knowledge
a) Knowledge of relevant building and health and safety legislation and industry practice and Surveying standards
SPECIAL SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
a) The incumbent should pay attention to detail
b) S/he should be creative
c) S/he should have strong analytical skills
d) S/he should have good communication skills
e) S/he should be a good team player
f) The Incumbent should have good computer skills
g) Should be flexible and willing to travel frequently
h) Experience with applicable software/systems for Surveyors
