Job Description
The Plant Manager will be responsible for planning, reporting, and managing day to day operations and maintenance of the power station/s. The daily activities will be split between administrative and technical duties.
Duties and Responsibilities
Managing daily operations in the hydro power station facilities.
Ensure the hydro power station(s) is(are) operational at the required capacity, 24 hours a day, seven days a week and at an optimum cost by effective utilization of labour, materials and equipment.
Preparation of accurate operations reports, including production status and plant availability (this includes new reports as well as updating of existing records).
Ensuring that all the required maintenance of the power stations is completed to the applicable standards, by applying maintenance schedules and utilizing of an Enterprise Asset Management System, as applicable, by planning, scheduling, and assigning jobs or tasks in the schedule, ensuring the availability of manpower, tools, parts, and equipment.
Anticipate and/or identify problems affecting the operations of the plant and to drive the planning, implementation, and supervision of projects related to maintenance or upgrades designed to improve production and plant availability.
Offer technical support to the O&M team, fault finding, and interpreting of technical drawings and manuals.
Hands-on participation in the annual preventive maintenance of the stations as required.
Procurement of spare parts and equipment (including developing technical specifications, getting quotes, making out purchase orders and update stock inventory).
Setting up annual and ad hoc budgets for operations and maintenance activities in the year, and present to the supervisor for approval.
Ensure safety of personnel and equipment and manage Health and Safety issues as required.
Ensure the operations of the power plant meet the Environmental and Social requirements given by Government authorities, Lenders and the company Executive Committee, and prepare and submit reports as required by authorities such as ERA, NEMA, DWRM and other relevant authorities.
Represent the company in all interactions with the local community representatives and other stakeholders in the area.
Lead, guide and mentor direct reports, regularly discuss their performance against expectations and use feedback from such discussions to improve performance.
Inculcate the company culture and work ethic within the hydro power station.
Execute any other duties that may be assigned by the Uganda O&M Manager.
This position may be required to work outside of normal working hours.
Local travel between plants may be required.
Qualification, Experiences and Competencies
Must be computer literate in the proficient use of MS Office applications.
Must have good numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Must have good technical reporting and communication skills.
Must be a person of high integrity and self-discipline.
A valid Ugandan National Driving licence (Class B or above) is an added advantage.
A valid ERA Permit (Installation or Operation) is an added advantage.
Fluency in English (written and spoken).
Sound knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental Management.
Education and Experience
University degree in Engineering or equivalent qualification with work experience.
At least four (4) years’ experience in maintenance or engineering environments e.g. power station or manufacturing facility.
