Job Description
National Union of Disabled Persons of Uganda (NUDIPU) is an umbrella organization promoting the rights of Persons with disabilities in Uganda with the vision of having “A Just and Fair Society where Persons with Disabilities live a Prosperous and Dignified life”. We exist to advocate for the rights of Persons with Disabilities in a unified voice for improved livelihoods. NUDIPU seeks to recruit a competent Ugandan to fill the following position:
Job Title: Programme Assistant (one position)
Job type: Full time
Reports to: Programme manager
Duty station: Kampala, Uganda Job Purpose To ensure that youth with disabilities seeking for jobs access employment through identification and engagement with employers interested in building the capacity of their confidence in understanding the policy and regulatory framework for inclusive employment and entrepreneurship.
Job Summary The Programme Assistant will identify and engage with employers for job placements and improve access to employment opportunities for youth with disabilities as well as support them in having increased voice and participation in advocacy efforts to promote inclusive employment and entrepreneurship.
Duties and Responsibilities
Support youth with Disabilities for career growth.
Championing development and utilization of career growth plans for youth with disabilities seeking for jobs.
Support identification and enrollment of Jobseekers with disabilities into soft skill training.
Track course completion rates and provide OPD and peer support to participants on required assignments including CV writing.
Support selected youth with disabilities to complete green skills training using Challenges Worldwide training content.
External engagements and collaboration
Establish partnerships and synergies crowned by MOUs with MDAs, CSOs, Development partners, Entrepreneurship and Employment networks, OPDs, youth organizations, and Organization promoting and advocating for rights, entrepreneurship, and Employment of youths.
Ensure Youth-focused OPDs adopt right-based approaches to engage the government on the relevant enablers to enhance inclusive employment and entrepreneurship.
Policy Engagements and Advocacy
Ensure Youth-focused OPDs have an increased understanding of the policy and regulatory framework for inclusive employment and entrepreneurship
Coordinate training of Youth-focused OPDs membership on policy engagement through rights-based advocacy approaches and relevant national and global policy frameworks on inclusive employment and entrepreneurship.
Support Youth-focused OPDs to develop targeted advocacy plans that integrate relevant policy bottlenecks analyses at the national & sub-national level.
Project monitoring and reporting
Conduct and participate in project MEL activities as per the project MEL plan and NUDIPU and project MEL system.
Collect, analyze, and manage project data as per set targets and timelines.
Develop and disseminate activity and periodic reports to NUDIPU, donors, and stakeholders and ensure they are timely, of quality, and informative.
Qualification, Experiences and Competencies
• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Entrepreneurship, Economics, Development Studies, Social work, Social Administration, human resource management or any other related discipline.
A postgraduate diploma in project planning and management or human rights advocacy is an added advantage. Industry Experience.
At least 3-5 years of experience working with youth with disabilities, and policy advocacy.
Strong understanding of inclusive employment and entrepreneurship
Excellent communication, advocacy, and project management skills
Ability to build partnerships and collaborate with various stakeholders
Relevant knowledge of national and international legal frameworks that protect and promote the rights of Persons with Disabilities, and employment laws.
Technical and interpersonal skills
Training and research skills, Administrative and coordination skills, and motivational skills.ls, effective communication skills.
Knowledge of disability issues and employment labour laws.
Comfortable working in multi-cultural settings and the ability to work calmly under pressure
Effective interpersonal skills to work with colleagues, partners, stakeholders.
