Job Description
Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) is a non-profit biomedical research organization, whose mission is to mitigate disease threats through quality research, health care and disease surveillance. MUWRP was established in 2002 by a Memorandum of Agreement between The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Inc. (HJF) and Makerere University (Mak) undertake medical research to test HIV vaccines. Over the years, MUWRP's portfolio has progressively expanded to include vaccine research for Ebola and Marburg viruses, Emerging Infectious Diseases Program (EIDP) for surveillance of influenza and influenza-like viruses and other emerging infections in humans and animals; also, a PEPFAR funded program in HIV treatment, care and prevention in the districts of Kayunga, Mukono, Buvuma, Buikwe, Luwero, Nakasongola. Additionally. MUWRP seeks to fill the following position.
Contract Tenure: 1 year with a possibility of extension subject to the needs of the Organization
Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Planning and Coordination
Supply Chain Strategy: Developing and implementing supply chain strategies aligned with program objectives.
Planning: Planning and forecasting supply chain requirements, including demand planning and inventory management.
Coordination: Coordinating with various departments, stakeholders, and suppliers to ensure seamless supply chain operations.
Procurement Management
Sourcing: Identifying and evaluating potential suppliers, negotiating contracts, and managing supplier relationships.
Procurement: Overseeing the procurement process, including issuing purchase orders, managing contracts, and ensuring timely delivery of goods and services.
Compliance: Ensuring that procurement activities comply with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
Logistics and Distribution
Logistics Management: Managing logistics operations, including transportation, warehousing, and distribution of goods.
Inventory Control: Monitoring and controlling inventory levels to ensure optimal stock levels and minimize waste.
Distribution: Ensuring the efficient and timely distribution of goods to various locations as required by the program.
Supply Chain Optimization
Process Improvement: Identifying opportunities for process improvements and implementing best practices to enhance supply chain efficiency.
Technology Utilization: Leveraging supply chain management software and other technological tools to streamline operations and improve visibility.
Risk Management: Assessing and mitigating risks related to supply chain disruptions, such as supplier issues or logistical challenges.
Monitoring and Reporting
Performance Monitoring: Tracking and analyzing key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the effectiveness of supply chain activities.
Reporting: Preparing and presenting regular reports on supply chain performance, challenges, and achievements to senior management.
Data Analysis: Utilizing data analytics to identify trends, forecast demand, and make informed decisions.
Qualification, Experiences and Competencies
Educational Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree: A bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, or a related field.
Advanced Degree: A master’s degree in supply chain management, logistics, or a related field is often preferred.
Professional Experience
Relevant Experience: Several years of experience in supply chain management, logistics, procurement, or a related field.
Program Management Experience: Experience in managing supply chain activities within a program or project context is advantageous.
Certifications and Licenses
Professional Certification: Certifications such as Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP), Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM), or similar credentials can enhance a candidate’s qualifications.
Skills and Competencies
Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess supply chain processes and identify improvement opportunities.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with stakeholders and preparing reports.
