Duties and Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Project Planning: Develop comprehensive project plans, including objectives, timelines, budgets, and resource allocation for climate change adaptation and mitigation projects.

  • Implementation: Lead the implementation of project activities, ensuring they align with the project plan and achieve desired outcomes.

  • Monitoring: Regularly monitor project progress, track milestones, and adjust plans as needed to stay on schedule and within budget.

  • Reporting: Prepare and submit detailed progress reports, impact assessments, and financial reports to stakeholders and donors.


Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation

  • Strategy Development: Develop and implement strategies to adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change, focusing on sustainable practices.

  • Risk Assessment: Conduct climate risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and develop mitigation plans.

  • Technology Integration: Integrate climate-smart technologies and practices into project activities to enhance resilience and reduce carbon footprints.

  • Policy Advocacy: Advocate for policies and regulations that support climate adaptation and mitigation efforts.


Learning and Knowledge Management

  • Learning Systems: Develop and maintain systems for capturing, storing, and disseminating knowledge gained from project activities.

  • Capacity Building: Design and deliver training programs to build the capacities of project staff, partners, and beneficiaries in climate adaptation and mitigation.

  • Knowledge Sharing: Facilitate knowledge sharing and learning among project stakeholders through workshops, seminars, and online platforms.

  • Documentation: Document best practices, lessons learned, and success stories to inform future projects and strategies.


Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL)

  • MEAL Integration: Incorporate MEAL practices into project planning and implementation to track progress, measure impact, and ensure accountability.

  • Data Collection: Develop and implement data collection tools and methodologies to gather relevant climate data.

  • Evaluation: Conduct regular evaluations to assess the effectiveness and impact of climate adaptation and mitigation interventions.

  • Learning: Capture and disseminate lessons learned to inform future project design and implementation.

  • Financial Management

  • Budget Management: Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring efficient use of resources and compliance with donor requirements.

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate financial reports and ensure timely submission to donors and stakeholders.

  • Fundraising: Identify funding opportunities and assist in the development of proposals to secure additional project funding.


Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration

  • Partnerships: Establish and maintain partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, community organizations, and other stakeholders to enhance project outcomes.

  • Community Engagement: Engage with local communities to understand their needs and ensure their active participation in project activities.

  • Communication: Communicate project goals, progress, and outcomes to stakeholders and the public through various channels.

Qualification, Experiences and Competencies

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree: A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Environmental Science, Climate Change, Natural Resource Management, International Development, or a related discipline.

  • Advanced Degree (Preferred): A master’s degree or higher in a related field can be advantageous.


Professional Experience

  • Relevant Experience: At least 5-7 years of professional experience in climate change adaptation and mitigation, environmental management, or related fields.

  • Project Management: Proven experience in managing complex projects, including planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.

  • Sector Experience: Experience working in specific sectors relevant to climate change, such as agriculture, forestry, water resources, or urban planning.


Technical Skills and Competencies

  • Climate Science: Strong understanding of climate change science, adaptation strategies, and mitigation technologies.

  • Project Management: Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools, including logical frameworks, theory of change, and results-based management.

  • Data Analysis: Ability to analyze climate data and use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other relevant tools.

  • Capacity Building: Experience in designing and delivering capacity-building programs related to climate adaptation and mitigation.


Soft Skills and Personal Attributes

  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and effectively to various audiences.

  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to interpret and synthesize data.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build and maintain relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including project staff, beneficiaries, and partners.

  • Leadership: Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide project teams.

  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing project needs and work in a dynamic environment.


Technical Proficiency

  • Software Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and project management software.

  • Data Analysis Tools: Familiarity with data analysis tools and software, such as SPSS, STATA, or R.

  • GIS Tools: Knowledge of GIS software for spatial analysis and mapping of climate data.
