Job Description
These duties and requirements outline the essential responsibilities and qualifications expected of Maintenance Technicians, who play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of equipment and facilities within an organization.
Duties and Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks, inspections, and repairs on machinery, mechanical systems, and production equipment to ensure they are in good working condition and comply with safety standards.
Troubleshooting: Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, identify root causes of problems, and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime and optimize performance.
Preventive Maintenance: Execute preventive maintenance programs by scheduling and performing regular maintenance tasks, such as lubrication, filter replacements, and calibration, to prevent equipment failures and prolong equipment lifespan.
Emergency Repairs: Respond to equipment breakdowns, emergencies, and urgent repair requests in a timely manner, prioritizing tasks based on criticality and impact on operations.
Facility Maintenance: Maintain building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and lighting systems, by performing repairs, replacements, and inspections to ensure a safe and comfortable working environment.
Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and procedures while performing maintenance activities, including lockout/tagout procedures, personal protective equipment (PPE) usage, and compliance with OSHA regulations.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, equipment history, inventory of spare parts, and maintenance logs, to track maintenance schedules, costs, and performance metrics.
Collaboration: Coordinate with other departments, supervisors, and external vendors to facilitate maintenance activities, procure parts and supplies, and communicate maintenance schedules and requirements effectively.
Qualification, Experiences and Competencies
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required. Some employers may prefer candidates with vocational training, certifications, or associate degrees in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance technology.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, as well as knowledge of relevant tools, equipment, and techniques used in maintenance work.
Problem-Solving Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities to diagnose equipment malfunctions, identify root causes of problems, and implement effective solutions to restore functionality and minimize downtime.
Safety Training: Training and certification in safety procedures, such as lockout/tagout, confined space entry, fall protection, and hazard communication, to ensure compliance with safety regulations and prevent accidents.
Physical Stamina: The role may involve standing, walking, bending, lifting heavy objects, and working in various weather conditions or confined spaces, so candidates should have the physical stamina and dexterity to perform tasks safely and effectively.
Communication Skills: Effective communication skills to interact with supervisors, colleagues, and external stakeholders, including the ability to clearly communicate maintenance issues, requirements, and progress updates.
Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively as part of a maintenance team, as well as independently with minimal supervision, while maintaining professionalism and cooperation with colleagues and other departments.
Adaptability: Flexibility to work variable shifts, weekends, or holidays as needed, and to adapt to changing priorities, emergencies, or operational requirements in a fast-paced environment.
Continuous Learning: Commitment to ongoing learning and skill development through participation in training programs, seminars, and certifications to stay updated on advancements in maintenance technology and best practices.
