It borders with the districts of Mbarara to the South, Kiruhura to the East, Buhweju to the west and Kamwenge to the North. The District has total surfaces area of 967 Km2.The district lies on an altitude of 1800 metres above sea level. The district has 8 Sub counties, 4 town councils and 1 municipal Council, 46 parishes and 590 Villages.
Job Description
By fulfilling these duties and meeting the educational, certification, and licensure requirements, radiographers play a crucial role in the medical field, providing essential diagnostic imaging services that aid in patient diagnosis and treatment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Diagnostic Imaging
Performing Imaging Procedures:
Conducting X-rays, MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), CT (Computed Tomography) scans, and other imaging procedures.
Operating Equipment:
Safely operating complex radiologic equipment to capture high-quality images.
Patient Positioning:
Positioning patients accurately to obtain the necessary views and ensure optimal image quality.
Image Evaluation:
Reviewing and evaluating images to determine if additional images or repeat procedures are necessary.
Image Storage:
Properly storing and maintaining imaging records and ensuring accurate documentation.
Patient Care
Patient Preparation:
Preparing patients for imaging procedures, explaining the process, and addressing any concerns.
Patient Safety:
Ensuring patient safety by using appropriate shielding to minimize radiation exposure and following safety protocols.
Monitoring During Procedures:
Monitoring patients during imaging procedures to ensure their comfort and safety.
Technical and Administrative Duties
Equipment Maintenance:
Performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting issues with radiologic equipment.
Quality Control:
Conducting quality control checks to ensure equipment is functioning properly and images are of high diagnostic quality.
Record Keeping:
Maintaining accurate patient records, including documenting imaging procedures and patient information.
Collaborative Duties
Working with Healthcare Team:
Collaborating with radiologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to interpret images and discuss findings.
Assisting in Procedures:
Assisting radiologists during complex imaging procedures and interventional radiology.
Professional Development:
Participating in continuing education and training to stay current with advances in radiologic technology and practices.
Qualification, Experiences and Competencies
Educational Requirements
High School Diploma or Equivalent:
Completion of high school with a strong background in science and math.
Accredited Radiography Program:
Completing an accredited associate’s degree or bachelor's degree program in radiography or radiologic technology. Programs typically include coursework in anatomy, physiology, radiation physics, radiobiology, and patient care.
Certification and Licensure
Certification:
Obtaining certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or an equivalent certifying body. This typically involves passing a certification exam.
State Licensure:
Acquiring a state license to practice as a radiographer, which may require passing a state-specific exam in addition to ARRT certification.
Clinical Experience
Clinical Training:
Completing clinical training or internships as part of the radiography program to gain hands-on experience in a healthcare setting.
Skills and Competencies
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in operating radiologic equipment and understanding imaging techniques.
Attention to Detail:
Ability to produce accurate and high-quality images by precisely following imaging protocols.
Interpersonal Skills:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and healthcare team members.
Physical Stamina:
Physical stamina to stand for long periods and assist in positioning patients.
