Duties and Responsibilities
Patient Assessment:
Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments.
Evaluate patients' mental, emotional, and physical health.
Develop individualized care plans based on assessment findings.
Treatment and Intervention:
Administer medications and monitor their effects.
Provide therapeutic interventions such as counseling and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).
Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
Regularly monitor patients' progress and adjust care plans as needed.
Assess the effectiveness of treatments and interventions.
Record and report any changes in patients' conditions to the healthcare team.
Qualification, Experiences and Competencies
A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or an equivalent degree is typically required.
Specialized coursework in mental health nursing during the nursing program.
Licensure and Certification:
Successful completion of the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) to become a Registered Nurse (RN).
Additional certification in psychiatric-mental health nursing may be required or preferred (e.g., Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Certification).
Clinical Experience:
Practical experience gained through clinical placements during nursing education.
Experience in mental health settings, such as psychiatric hospitals or community mental health centers, is highly valuable.
