About the Organization
Job Description
A Security Controller, often referred to as a Security Operations Controller or Security Manager, is responsible for overseeing the security operations within an organization or at a specific site. They play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of people, property, and information.
Duties and Responsibilities
Security Operations Management:
Supervision: Supervising and coordinating security personnel, including guards and surveillance operators.
Patrol Management: Organizing and managing security patrols to ensure comprehensive coverage and deterrence of unauthorized activities.
Incident Response: Leading the response to security incidents, including alarms, breaches, and emergencies.
Monitoring and Surveillance:
CCTV Monitoring: Overseeing the operation of surveillance systems and ensuring continuous monitoring of premises.
Access Control: Managing access control systems to regulate entry and exit points.
Alarm Systems: Monitoring alarm systems and ensuring they are functional and properly maintained.
Risk Assessment and Management:
Risk Analysis: Conducting risk assessments to identify potential security threats and vulnerabilities.
Mitigation Strategies: Developing and implementing strategies to mitigate identified risks.
Security Audits: Performing regular security audits and inspections to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
Policy Development and Implementation:
Security Policies: Developing, updating, and enforcing security policies and procedures.
Compliance: Ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and organizational security standards.
Training: Providing training and guidance to security personnel on policies, procedures, and best practices.
Coordination and Communication:
Liaison: Coordinating with law enforcement agencies, emergency services, and other relevant bodies during security incidents.
Reporting: Preparing detailed reports on security incidents, breaches, and activities for senior management.
Briefings: Conducting security briefings and debriefings with staff and management.
Emergency Preparedness and Response:
Emergency Plans: Developing and maintaining emergency response plans for various scenarios.
Drills and Exercises: Organizing and conducting security drills and exercises to test and improve response capabilities.
Crisis Management: Leading crisis management efforts during emergencies and ensuring effective communication and coordination.
Qualification, Experiences and Competencies
Education and Qualifications:
Degree: A degree in criminal justice, security management, or a related field is often preferred but not always required.
Certifications: Relevant certifications such as Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), or other security-related credentials can be advantageous.
Experience:
Security Experience: Significant experience in security operations, law enforcement, or military service.
Leadership: Previous experience in a supervisory or managerial role within a security context.
Skills and Competencies:
Leadership: Strong leadership and supervisory skills to manage and motivate security teams.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective coordination and reporting.
Analytical Skills: Ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in using security technology, such as CCTV, access control systems, and alarm systems.
Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, particularly under pressure.
