Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

Course Design and Delivery:

  • Develop and teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in computer science and related fields.

  • Prepare and update course materials, including syllabi, lecture notes, labs, and reading lists.

  • Employ a variety of teaching methods and technologies to engage students and enhance learning.

Student Assessment:

  • Design and evaluate assessments such as exams, projects, coding assignments, and presentations.

  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students on their performance.

  • Ensure that assessments are aligned with learning outcomes and academic standards.

Student Support and Advising:

  • Offer academic advising and mentorship to students, assisting with course selection, career planning, and addressing academic challenges.

  • Supervise student projects, theses, and dissertations, providing guidance on research methods and technical content.

Research and Scholarship

Research Activities:

  • Conduct high-quality research in computer science, contributing to the advancement of the field.

Grant Applications:

  • Seek funding for research projects from external sources and internal grants.

  • Manage research projects, including budgets, timelines, and deliverables.

Collaboration and Networking:

  • Collaborate with colleagues within and outside the institution on interdisciplinary research projects.

  • Participate in academic conferences, workshops, and seminars to present research and network with peers.

Administrative and Leadership Roles

Curriculum Development:

  • Participate in the development and periodic review of the computer science curriculum to ensure it meets current academic and industry standards.

  • Lead or contribute to curriculum committees and program development initiatives.

Departmental Administration:

  • Take on leadership roles such as program coordinator, course leader, or head of a specific academic area within the department.

  • Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to strategic planning and decision-making processes.

Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure that teaching practices and course content comply with institutional and external quality assurance standards and accreditation requirements.

  • Engage in continuous improvement of teaching and learning practices.

  • Community Engagement and Professional Service

Outreach and Partnerships:

  • Engage with industry partners, schools, and community organizations to promote computer science education and research.

  • Develop partnerships and collaborative projects that enhance the impact of the institution’s computer science programs.

Professional Development:

  • Stay updated with the latest developments in computer science and educational practices through ongoing professional development.

  • Share expertise with the broader community through workshops, public lectures, and professional service.

Service to the Profession:

  • Serve on editorial boards, review panels, and committees of professional associations in the field of computer science.

  • Mentor junior faculty members and contribute to their professional growth and development.

  • Explore and implement innovative teaching practices, such as flipped classrooms, blended learning, and online education, to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.

  • Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment that accommodates diverse student needs and promotes equity.

Qualification, Experiences and Competencies

  • PhD in a relevant area from a recognized Institution of higher learning.

  • A Master of Science Degree majoring in Computer Science from a recognized Institution of higher learning.

  • An Honors Bachelor of Science in Education Degree (majoring in Mathematics & Computer) or Bachelor of Science in Computer Science Degree from a recognized Institution of higher learning.

  • Three (3) years of University teaching experience or relevant working experience in a reputable Organization or Industry for those without PhD.

  • Four (4) recognized publications in the area of specialization, two (2) of which as the First/ Corresponding/ Senior author.

  • Evidence of contribution to Community

  • Age Limit: Should not have reached fifty (50) years of age by deadline for submission of application.
