Job Description
The Senior Legal Manager shall be responsible for deputizing the Head of Legal and shall be responsible for providing support and having oversight on matters related to customer and vendor management, legal advisory, litigation management and regulatory support.
Duties and Responsibilities
Manage and steer the team supporting on the legal, compliance, risk and regulatory functions within the department.
Build and maintain strategic relationships with key external stakeholders to achieve business goals.
Undertake comprehensive, timely and accurate review of contracts, and where required develop/draft legal instruments, including but not limited to contracts, leases, licenses, notices etc.
Handle the organization’s litigation portfolio including but not limited to pre-trial briefing, assisting in the review and response to pleadings, collating supporting documentation, identifying potential witnesses, attending Court sessions, maintaining litigation files and ensuring proper maintenance of such files.
Provide sound legal advice in all operational matters including emerging laws and regulations, commercial transactions and HR issues among other areas.
Management of external counsel i.e. development of SLA, undertaking firm audits, , issuance of instructions in consultation with the Head of Legal, performance appraisal etc.
Facilitate debt recovery by issuing demands and notices to debtors and guarantors as well as responding to demands issued to the organization.
Conduct quarterly reviews of the organization’s litigation matters in order to reduce litigation portfolio by closing cases where recovery chances are slim.
Support as a key account manager for Tier 1 customers and address and respond to customer complaints, customer demands and offer legal advisory as required.
Management of legal costs and ensuring departmental cost reduction by at least 10% of budgeted amount.
Supporting other departments as business partner to ensure compliance and risk prevention.
Facilitate legal awareness on litigation and commercial transactions to mitigate risk.
Development of compliance checklist and work status reports.

Education and Experience
LLB Degree or equivalent foreign qualification.
Admitted lawyer with 8 + years relevant experience in applying general commercial and corporate law.
3+ years of property law and/or telecommunications law experience.
