Job Description

The duties of a Social Worker at the Soroti Office will likely be similar to those in the Arua Office, but they might be tailored to the specific needs and context of the Soroti region. Social Workers in this role typically provide direct support to clients, manage cases, engage with the community, and address social issues specific to the area.

Duties and Responsibilities

Client Support and Advocacy

  • Needs Assessment: Conduct thorough assessments to understand the needs, strengths, and challenges of clients.

  • Counseling Services: Provide individual, family, or group counseling to support clients in managing social, emotional, and economic issues.

  • Advocacy: Advocate for clients to ensure they have access to necessary services and resources, and represent their interests in various settings.


Case Management

  • Service Planning: Develop and implement individualized service plans based on client assessments.

  • Coordination of Services: Coordinate with various service providers to ensure clients receive comprehensive support, including healthcare, housing, education, and employment services.

  • Monitoring Progress: Regularly monitor and evaluate client progress, adjusting service plans as needed to ensure effective support.


Community Engagement and Outreach

  • Community Needs Assessment: Conduct assessments to identify the needs and challenges of the Soroti community.

  • Outreach Programs: Develop and implement outreach initiatives to inform the community about available services and resources.

  • Partnership Building: Establish and maintain relationships with local organizations, agencies, and community groups to enhance service delivery.


Documentation and Reporting

  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions, assessments, and service plans.

  • Reporting: Prepare detailed reports on client progress, service delivery, and program outcomes for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Data Management: Use case management software and tools to track client information and outcomes.


Crisis Intervention

  • Immediate Support: Provide urgent support and intervention in crisis situations, such as domestic violence, homelessness, or health emergencies.

  • Risk Assessment: Conduct assessments to identify and mitigate risks to clients’ safety and well-being.

  • Referrals: Refer clients to appropriate emergency services and follow-up support as needed.


Program Development and Management

  • Program Design: Assist in designing and developing programs that address social issues specific to the Soroti community.

  • Policy Implementation: Implement organizational policies and procedures related to social work practice.

  • Program Evaluation: Participate in evaluating the effectiveness of programs and services, recommending improvements as needed.


Training and Education

  • Client Education: Educate clients on various topics, such as financial management, health, parenting skills, and available resources.

  • Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices and emerging trends in social work.

  • Staff Training: Assist in training and mentoring new social workers, interns, and volunteers.


Ethical and Legal Responsibilities

  • Confidentiality: Ensure that all client information is handled with strict confidentiality and in compliance with legal and ethical standards.

  • Compliance: Adhere to relevant laws, regulations, and professional standards in social work practice.

  • Funding Opportunities: Help identify funding opportunities and prepare grant applications to support social work programs.
