Job Description
The Coffee Sourcing and Exports Officer plays a crucial role in the coffee supply chain, overseeing the procurement of coffee beans and managing their export to various markets. This position requires a blend of skills in supply chain management, quality control, relationship building, and knowledge of international trade regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities
Sourcing Coffee Beans:
Identify and establish relationships with coffee farmers and cooperatives.
Evaluate potential suppliers based on quality, reliability, and ethical standards.
Negotiate contracts and pricing with suppliers to secure the best quality coffee at competitive prices.
Quality Control:
Ensure that coffee beans meet the company's quality standards.
Conduct regular inspections and quality assessments at various stages of the supply chain.
Work with suppliers to implement quality improvement measures.
Supply Chain Management:
Manage logistics for transporting coffee beans from the source to the company’s processing or export facilities.
Monitor inventory levels and manage stock to ensure a consistent supply.
Export Management:
Oversee the export process, ensuring compliance with international trade regulations and standards
Prepare and manage documentation required for customs and shipping.
Work with customs brokers, shipping agents, and regulatory bodies to facilitate smooth export operations.
Market Analysis and Strategy:
Analyse market trends and demand to make informed sourcing decisions.
Develop and implement strategies to expand the company’s sourcing network and market reach.
Stay updated on global coffee market developments, including pricing, demand, and supply chain disruptions.
Promote and ensure ethical sourcing practices, including fair trade and environmentally sustainable methods.
Ensure compliance with certifications and standards related to ethical sourcing.
Qualification, Experiences and Competencies
A bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Agriculture, International Business, or a related field is required.
Post graduate or certifications in supply chain management, international trade, or agribusiness can be advantageous.
At least Five years of experience in supply chain management, procurement, or export management, preferably within the coffee industry.
Experience working with international markets and knowledge of global trade regulations.
Possess a valid driving licence with at least 3years driving experience.
Skills and knowledge.
Analytical Skills, with the Ability to analyse market trends, supplier performance, and quality data to make informed decisions.
Strong negotiation skills to secure favourable terms with suppliers and logistics partners.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective coordination with suppliers, customers, and internal teams.
Strong organizational and project management skills to handle multiple tasks and ensure timely deliveries.
Understanding of different cultures and practices, especially in coffee-producing regions, to build strong relationships with suppliers.
Knowledge of coffee categories, cultivation, processing, and quality assessment techniques.
Understanding of international trade laws, customs regulations, and export documentation requirements.
