Job Description
Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) is a non-profit biomedical research organization, whose mission is to mitigate disease threats through quality research, health care and disease surveillance. MUWRP was established in 2002 by a Memorandum of Agreement between The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Inc. (HJF) and Makerere University (Mak) undertake medical research to test HIV vaccines. Over the years, MUWRP's portfolio has progressively expanded to include vaccine research for Ebola and Marburg viruses, Emerging Infectious Diseases Program (EIDP) for surveillance of influenza and influenza-like viruses and other emerging infections in humans and animals; also, a PEPFAR funded program in HIV treatment, care and prevention in the districts of Kayunga, Mukono, Buvuma, Buikwe, Luwero, Nakasongola. Additionally. MUWRP seeks to fill the following position.
Contract Tenure: 1 year with a possibility of extension subject to the needs of the Organization
Duties and Responsibilities
Program Development and Implementation
Guideline Development: Developing and updating clinical guidelines, protocols, and standard operating procedures for care and treatment.
Program Design: Assisting in the design and implementation of healthcare programs, ensuring they align with current best practices and standards.
Monitoring and Evaluation: Establishing monitoring and evaluation frameworks to assess program effectiveness and impact.
Technical Support and Capacity Building
Training: Conducting training sessions and workshops for healthcare providers on care and treatment protocols.
Mentorship: Providing ongoing mentorship and technical support to healthcare staff to enhance their skills and knowledge.
Consultation: Offering expert consultation on complex clinical cases and programmatic issues.
Quality Assurance
Clinical Audits: Conducting clinical audits and site visits to ensure adherence to treatment protocols and quality standards.
Performance Improvement: Identifying areas for improvement and implementing quality improvement initiatives.
Data Management and Reporting
Data Analysis: Analyzing program data to identify trends, gaps, and areas for improvement.
Reporting: Preparing detailed reports on program performance, clinical outcomes, and quality indicators.
Research: Participating in operational research to inform and improve care and treatment strategies.
Stakeholder Engagement
Collaboration: Collaborating with other healthcare providers, program managers, and external stakeholders to ensure coordinated care.
Advocacy: Advocating for the adoption of best practices in care and treatment at various levels of the healthcare system.
Representation: Representing the organization at national and international forums, conferences, and meetings.
Policy and Strategy Development
Policy Advice: Providing technical advice on health policies and strategies related to care and treatment.
Strategic Planning: Contributing to strategic planning processes to enhance healthcare delivery and program sustainability.
Qualification, Experiences and Competencies
Advanced Degree: A master's degree in medicine, public health, nursing, or a related field. A medical degree (MD, MBBS) or a Ph.D. can be an added advantage.
Specialized Training: Additional training or certification in relevant clinical specialties, such as infectious diseases, HIV/AIDS, or chronic disease management.
Professional Experience
Clinical Experience: Extensive clinical experience, particularly in managing and treating chronic diseases or infectious diseases.
Program Experience: Experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating healthcare programs, preferably in resource-limited settings.
Leadership Experience: Demonstrated experience in a leadership or advisory role within a healthcare or public health program.
Skills and Competencies
Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of clinical guidelines, protocols, and best practices in care and treatment.
Training and Mentorship: Strong skills in training, mentoring, and capacity building of healthcare providers.
Analytical Skills: Proficiency in data analysis, interpretation, and reporting.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report writing, presentations, and stakeholder engagement.
Project Management: Strong project management skills, including planning, monitoring, and evaluation.
