Job Description
Bishop Stuart University (Chartered by the Government of Uganda) is a fastest growing Ankole Diocese Church of Uganda founded institution located in Kakoba, Mbarara.3.5Km from the City Center. The University is inviting competent applicants to fill the full-time positions listed below: Applicants must be of high integrity, strong faith and committed Christians.
Duties and Responsibilities
Infrastructure Management
Maintenance Planning: Develop and implement maintenance schedules for all campus facilities and infrastructure.
System Management: Oversee the operation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
Inspections: Conduct regular inspections of buildings and systems to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
Project Management
Capital Projects: Plan and manage capital improvement projects, including new construction, renovations, and major repairs.
Budgeting: Prepare and manage budgets for maintenance and capital projects.
Contract Management: Oversee the work of contractors and vendors, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
Safety and Compliance
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all facilities and systems comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including building codes and environmental laws.
Safety Standards: Implement and enforce safety protocols to protect students, staff, and visitors.
Emergency Response: Develop and manage emergency response plans for infrastructure-related incidents.
Strategic Planning
Infrastructure Planning: Participate in the development of long-term plans for campus growth and infrastructure improvement.
Sustainability Initiatives: Implement and promote sustainability initiatives to reduce energy consumption and environmental impact.
Technology Integration: Integrate new technologies and innovative solutions to enhance campus facilities and operations.
Team Leadership and Collaboration
Team Management: Lead and manage a team of engineers, technicians, and maintenance staff.
Training and Development: Provide training and professional development opportunities for team members.
Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, such as facilities management, security, and academic departments, to coordinate infrastructure activities.
Qualification, Experiences and Competencies
Educational Background: A bachelor’s degree in engineering (civil, mechanical, electrical, or a related field) is typically required. A master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., Professional Engineer (PE) license) is highly preferred.
Experience: Significant experience (typically 7-10 years) in facilities management, engineering, or a related field. Experience in a university or similar institutional setting is advantageous.
Project Management: Demonstrated experience in managing large-scale construction and renovation projects.
Skills and Competencies
Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of building systems (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC) and infrastructure management.
Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills to evaluate systems, diagnose problems, and develop effective solutions.
Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with building codes, safety regulations, and environmental laws.
Budgeting Skills: Ability to prepare and manage budgets for maintenance and capital projects.
Project Management: Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools, with the ability to oversee complex projects from inception to completion.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with staff, contractors, and university stakeholders.
Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and team management skills to lead a diverse team of technical and maintenance staff.
Problem-Solving: Effective problem-solving skills to address and resolve infrastructure-related issues.
