Background
The Maternity cover WASH Engineer will lead the planning and execution of all construction
works with guidance from the Director of Programs. The WASH Engineer will work closely
with the Project and Program leads. He/she shall be responsible for the practical
management and planning of every stage of construction projects. The post holder will ensure
all building design and construction projects are completed safely and shall oversee schedules
of work to ensure each phase of a construction contract goes to plan.
He/she will conduct detailed technical assessments on the status of existing/new proposed
WASH facilities for new or upgrading interventions at required sites, Coordinate and guide
construction workers and subcontractors. They will further ensure adherence to quality
construction standards and the use of proper construction guidelines that meet Government
of Uganda standards and WaterAid quality program standard
Duties and Responsibilities
Preparing design and Bills of Quantities for the different WASH related construction works for the central region.
Providing any required information on WASH related construction works for the Eastern region to inform business development or management decisions
Providing technical and management supervision to the ongoing construction works in the Eastern region.
Compiling relevant management and donor reports based on agreed timelines and requirements.
Supporting documentation of lessons learnt and best practices on the various projects in the Eastern regions based on needs
Enforcing WaterAid’s Quality standards at the construction sites including
safeguarding, Safety & Security.
Spearheading capacity development for stakeholders and beneficiaries on operation and maintenance of the various WASH facilities in the region.
Coordinating with districts, partners, contractors and other WaterAid Uganda’s colleagues in the region and secretariate
Any other emerging technical and engineering support and guidance that Eastern may Require
Qualification, Experiences and Competencies
Bachelor’s Degree in Building construction and Civil Engineering.
Five years of professional experience in buildings design and construction, some of which related to the WASH sector in Uganda.
Work experience in working with district authorities is of added advantage. Specific experience of work in WASH in Health Care Facilities and Schools is an added advantage.
Registration with a professional affiliation in Uganda is a must.
Advanced knowledge of construction management processes means and methods.
Expert knowledge of building products, construction details and relevant rules, regulations guidelines and quality standards.
Understanding of all facets of the construction process.
Commitment to WaterAid’s values and a working style that reflects these.
A team player, able to work in a collaborative way
Ability to plan and see the “big picture”
Competent in conflict and crisis management.
Leadership and human resources management skills
Excellent time and project management skills.
Ability to use computer aided design applications such as Arch CAD etc.
Demonstrated contract management experience
