MU-JHU CARE LTD, in partnership with Johns Hopkins University (JHU) and Makerere University College of Health Sciences (MakCHS), is pleased to announce the 2025 Scholarships and Training Programs for Ugandan researchers. Supported by the Fogarty International Center of the US National Institute of Health, these programs aim to strengthen Uganda’s scientific and clinical research capacity in HIV-related clinical trials — particularly among pregnant and lactating women, children, adolescents, young women, and their partners.
Short-Term Training Scholarship 2025
Background
MU-JHU CARE LTD, together with JHU and MakCHS, is offering short-term training courses for Ugandan researchers engaged in HIV clinical trials.
Course Objectives
Provide in-depth training on HIV-related clinical trials among key populations.
Increase clinical research capacity for Ugandan researchers and institutions.
Course Details
Duration: 1-week in-person core workshop at MU-JHU.
Additional Modules: Optional specialized sessions on advanced topics.
Target Audience: Researchers, doctors, nurses, midwives, lab personnel, pharmacists, and more.
Benefits:
Certificate of attendance.
Eligibility for mid-term training.
Addition to the MU-JHU training network for future opportunities.
No course fee charged.

Master of Science (MSc) Scholarships 2025
Background
The MU-JHU CARE LTD 2025 MSc Scholarships aim to strengthen multidisciplinary capacity for HIV research in Uganda. Scholarships are available for MSc programs in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Pharmacology, Bioethics, Clinical Trials, and related disciplines at Makerere University.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
Be Ugandan citizens enrolled in a Master of Science program at Makerere University or Makerere School of Public Health.
Be in their second year and ready to begin research.
Have an HIV-related research topic in the target populations.
Demonstrate commitment to publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
Benefits
Tuition coverage at Makerere University.
Research funding for the dissertation.
Monthly stipend.
Mentorship and training in scientific and grant writing.

Background
The MU-JHU CARE LTD 2025 MMED Scholarships are open to students in Paediatrics and Child Health or Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Makerere University. The program builds local expertise to design and lead HIV-related clinical research.
Eligibility
Applicants should:
Be Ugandan, enrolled in the relevant MMED program at Makerere University.
Be in their 2nd or 3rd year and ready to begin research.
Have an HIV-related research proposal approved by their department.
Be committed to publishing research findings.

The MU-JHU CARE LTD 2025 PhD Scholarships, in collaboration with Johns Hopkins University, support doctoral training in Behavioural Science, Pharmacology, Virology/Immunology, Biostatistics, and Epidemiology at Makerere University.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
Be Ugandan and affiliated with MU-JHU, MakCHS, or another research organization.
Hold a Master’s degree in a relevant field.
Have an HIV-related research concept.
