Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) is a public Limited Company, owned by the Government of Uganda. UETCL holds the following operational licences; System Operator, Operation of the High Voltage Transmission Grid, Bulk Power Supply, Import and Export of Power and; Public Infrastructure Provider (for ownership and operation of the Optic Fibre).

Duties and Responsibilities
IT Strategy and Planning:
Develop and implement the IT strategy aligned with the organization's goals.
Plan and oversee projects to upgrade or implement new IT systems and services.
Team Leadership and Management:
Lead, mentor, and manage the IT team, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
Foster a collaborative and productive team environment.
Infrastructure Management:
Oversee the maintenance and security of all IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, databases, and hardware.
Ensure reliable and secure operation of IT systems and applications.
Budget Management:
Develop and manage the IT department’s budget.
Optimize spending on technology and ensure cost-effective solutions.
Cybersecurity and Compliance:
Implement and maintain robust cybersecurity measures to protect the organization’s data and systems.
Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
Technical Support and Service Management:
Ensure the IT team provides effective technical support to all employees.
Implement and manage IT service management processes (e.g., ITIL framework).
Vendor Management:
Manage relationships with external IT vendors and service providers.
Negotiate contracts and service agreements.
System Implementation and Integration:
Oversee the deployment, integration, and maintenance of software and hardware systems.
Ensure seamless integration of new technologies with existing systems.
Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery:
Develop and maintain business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
Ensure rapid recovery of IT systems in case of disruptions.
Continuous Improvement:
Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies.
Promote continuous improvement in IT processes and services.

Qualification, Experiences and Competencies
Educational Background:
A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related field. A master’s degree in IT management or business administration can be advantageous.
Experience:
Extensive experience in IT management or a related role.
Proven experience in leading and managing IT teams.
Skills and Competencies:
Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, databases, and security systems.
Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and people management skills.
Project Management: Ability to manage multiple IT projects and deliver them on time and within budget.
Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities to address complex technical issues.
Communication Skills: Effective written and verbal communication skills for interacting with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Budgeting Skills: Experience in budgeting and financial management within an IT context.
Strategic Thinking: Ability to align IT strategy with business objectives.
Technical Knowledge:
Familiarity with various operating systems (e.g., Windows, Linux), databases (e.g., SQL), and network technologies.
Understanding of cloud computing, virtualization, and cybersecurity principles.
Certifications (Optional but Beneficial):
Relevant IT certifications, such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Project Management Professional (PMP), ITIL Certification, Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), or Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
