ICPAU August 2026 CPA Results Released: 2,281 Pass – What Students Must Do Next
The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) has released the August 2026 CPA Uganda examination results, bringing both celebration and important lessons for thousands of students pursuing the Certified Public Accountants qualification.
According to results released on 14 September 2026, candidates presented a total of 6,711 examination scripts, from which 2,281 passes were recorded.
Even more encouraging, 130 students completed the CPA Uganda course, compared with 97 students during the August 2025 examination diet. This brings the cumulative number of students who have completed the CPA Uganda course to 5,806.
For students who passed, congratulations! For those who did not obtain the results they expected, however, ICPAU's message is equally important: failure should be followed by reflection, better preparation and a stronger examination strategy — not blame.

What the August 2026 CPA Results Tell Us
The August results showed mixed performance across the four CPA levels.
Performance improved considerably at Levels 1 and 4, where average pass rates increased by 8.3 and 18.6 percentage points respectively. Level 3 experienced a slight decline of 0.3 percentage points, while Level 2 declined by 9.4 percentage points.
Another interesting result was the performance of first-time candidates. Of the 2,281 passes recorded, 732 — approximately 32.1% — were achieved by candidates sitting their papers for the first time.
Female candidates also accounted for the majority of examination scripts presented. Of the 6,711 scripts, 3,890 (57.9%) were presented by female candidates, compared with 2,821 (42.1%) presented by male candidates.
These results demonstrate that CPA Uganda remains achievable, but success requires deliberate and consistent preparation.
Why Are Some CPA Students Still Failing?
One of the most important messages arising from the August 2026 results concerns how students prepare for professional examinations.
ICPAU highlighted several weaknesses identified through examiners' reports, including:
Inadequate examination preparation
Difficulty applying technical knowledge
Poor examination techniques
Failure to properly interpret examination questions
These are important observations because CPA examinations are not simply about memorising notes.
A student may understand a topic but still lose marks because they cannot apply that knowledge to a practical scenario, identify what the examiner requires, structure the answer appropriately or manage examination time effectively.
This means effective CPA preparation should combine technical knowledge, question practice, examination technique, past-paper analysis and continuous revision.
ICPAU to Students: Take Responsibility for Your Professional Journey
During the release of the results, ICPAU Chief Executive Officer Derick Nkajja encouraged students to focus on their studies and professional development rather than engaging in gossip or blaming others for examination failure.
The broader message was one of professional responsibility.
CPA students are preparing to become professional accountants entrusted with organisations' finances, reporting, taxation, governance and decision-making. The journey therefore requires discipline, integrity, reliability, continuous learning and personal accountability.
Students who were unsuccessful in August should consequently use their results as an opportunity to ask practical questions:
Did I start preparing early enough?
Did I practise enough past examination questions?
Did I understand the technical concepts or simply memorise them?
Did I study the examiners' reports and understand common candidate mistakes?
Was my examination technique strong enough?
Identifying the actual weakness is the first step towards changing the next result.
Didn't Pass in August? Your CPA Journey Is Not Over
Failing one or more CPA papers does not mean that you cannot become a Certified Public Accountant.
The August 2026 results themselves demonstrate that students continue to progress through the qualification, with 130 candidates completing CPA Uganda during this examination diet alone.
What matters now is what you do differently before your next examination.
Under the ICPAU 2026 examination calendar, the next CPA examination diet is scheduled for 7–11 December 2026. Normal examination registration runs from 15–30 September 2026, followed by late registration for eligible continuing students from 1–15 October 2026.
This makes September an important period for students intending to sit the December examinations.
