Job Description
About the Organization:
Reporting to management, the Accountant will manage books of account, process payments and receipts, maintain ledgers and reconciliations, prepare management accounts, support budgeting and audits, ensure compliance with Ugandan tax and statutory obligations, and strengthen internal controls. The role demands accuracy, confidentiality, and the ability to meet tight deadlines in a mission-driven environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain general ledger, journals, and supporting schedules.
Process accounts payable/receivable and manage petty cash.
Prepare bank, cash, and supplier reconciliations.
Compile monthly management accounts and cash flow updates.
Support annual budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis.
Ensure timely filing and payment of statutory obligations (e.g., URA taxes, NSSF).
Maintain the fixed asset register and depreciation schedules.
Strengthen internal controls and documentation; file vouchers and records.
Liaise with external/internal auditors and respond to audit queries.
Improve accounting processes and support other finance/admin tasks as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Professional certification progress (CPA/ACCA) is an added advantage.
Proven experience in an accounting role (experience in education/research/NGO settings is a plus).
Proficiency with accounting software and MS Excel.
High integrity, attention to detail, good communication, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Willingness to relocate within Mukono District and start promptly.
