About the Organization:

The Makerere University Joint AIDS Program (MJAP) seeks Finance Officers to support their fight against HIV/AIDS and TB in Uganda. You’ll assist with project financial management, ensuring accurate recording and processing of all transactions. This includes preparing clear and comprehensive financial reports to maintain strong financial oversight.

The Makerere University Joint AIDS Program (MJAP) is a collaborative initiative dedicated to combating HIV/AIDS and improving the health outcomes of those affected by the disease in Uganda. Established in 2004, MJAP operates as a partnership between Makerere University, one of Africa's leading educational institutions, and various stakeholders in the health sector, including the Ugandan government, international donors, and non-governmental organizations.

Mission and Vision
Mission: To provide comprehensive HIV prevention, care, and treatment services, while also conducting research and training to improve the health and well-being of individuals and communities affected by HIV/AIDS in Uganda.

Vision: To be a center of excellence in HIV/AIDS prevention, care, treatment, and research, contributing significantly to the global fight against HIV/AIDS.

Organization:

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Help create monthly financial reports, ensuring expenses follow regulations and MJAP policies.

  • Prepare bank reconciliation statements.

  • Process payments according to project budget and approvals.

  • Review and approve mobile money payments for project activities.

  • Manage petty cash fund.

  • Address financial report queries from headquarters.

  • Help prepare cash flow projections.

  • Assist with reviewing financial reports from sub-grantees.

  • Work with other departments on financial matters.

  • Participate in month-end report preparation.

  • Assist with inventory and asset audits.

  • Ensure timely payments for supplies and utilities.

  • Perform other tasks assigned by supervisor.

Makerere University Joint AIDS Program (MJAP)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Management, or similar field.

  • Additional Level 2 ACCA or CPA qualification preferred.

  • Experience with Sun Systems, Navision, or QuickBooks accounting software a plus.

  • Experience with online banking platforms (especially Beyonic) a plus.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in financial management.

  • Experience with USAID projects and mobile money payments preferred.

  • Excellent writing, computer, management, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently and manage deadlines.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

  • High level of integrity.
