Job Description
A Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who also serves as a Medical Director combines the responsibilities of leading a healthcare organization with overseeing its clinical operations. This dual role requires a blend of business leadership and medical expertise to ensure the organization achieves its goals while maintaining high standards of patient care.
Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership:
Vision and Mission: Define and articulate the organization’s vision, mission, and strategic objectives.
Strategic Planning: Develop and implement long-term strategies to ensure organizational growth, sustainability, and competitiveness.
Decision-Making: Lead executive decision-making processes, balancing business goals with patient care priorities.
Clinical Governance:
Quality of Care: Oversee the quality and safety of clinical services, ensuring they meet regulatory standards and best practices.
Policy Development: Develop and enforce clinical policies, procedures, and protocols that promote patient safety and care quality.
Medical Oversight: Provide clinical leadership, guiding medical staff in delivering evidence-based care.
Operational Management:
Day-to-Day Operations: Oversee daily operations, ensuring the efficient use of resources and smooth functioning of all departments.
Resource Allocation: Manage the allocation of resources, including personnel, equipment, and facilities, to optimize service delivery.
Performance Monitoring: Monitor operational performance, making adjustments as needed to meet organizational goals.
Financial Management:
Budgeting: Develop and manage the organization’s budget, ensuring financial stability and sustainability.
Revenue Management: Oversee revenue cycle management, including billing, reimbursements, and cost control.
Financial Reporting: Report financial performance to the board of directors and stakeholders, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Human Resources Management:
Staff Leadership: Lead the recruitment, retention, and development of both medical and administrative staff.
Workplace Culture: Promote a positive and inclusive work environment that encourages collaboration and professional growth.
Performance Evaluation: Oversee performance management processes, ensuring staff meet organizational and clinical standards.
Qualification, Experiences and Competencies
A Bachelor's Degree in Medicine and Surgery from a recognized University/Medical School
A Master of Medicine Degree in any Clinical Disciplines from a recognized University.
Registered with the Uganda Medical council with an up-to-date Annual Practicing License
A training in health services management or any other equivalent qualification shall be an added advantage
A minimum of 5 years' experience in the Hospital three of whom one has been in a managerial position.
