Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) Limited is a limited liability company solely owned by the Government of Uganda (GOU). It was established under Section 42 of the Petroleum (Exploration, Development, and Production) Act and Section 7 of the Petroleum (Refining, Conversion, Transmission and Midstream Storage) Act, both of 2013. It was incorporated under the Companies Act of 2012 as a limited liability company on June 12th, 2015.
Job Description
Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) Limited was established under the Petroleum (Exploration, Development and Production) Act and the Petroleum (Refining, Conversion, Transmission and Midstream storage) Act, both of 2013 and incorporated under the Companies Act, 2012. It is a limited liability company wholly owned by the Government of Uganda.
Duties and Responsibilities
Environmental Policy Development and Implementation:
Develop and implement environmental policies, procedures, and management systems.
Ensure policies comply with environmental laws and regulations.
Communicate policies to employees and management.
Regulatory Compliance:
Monitor and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
Prepare and submit necessary reports to regulatory agencies.
Stay informed about changes in environmental legislation.
Environmental Audits and Assessments:
Conduct regular environmental audits to assess compliance and identify potential areas for improvement.
Evaluate the environmental impact of organizational activities and propose mitigation strategies.
Implement corrective actions for any identified non-compliance.
Waste Management:
Develop and manage waste reduction, recycling, and disposal programs.
Ensure hazardous waste is handled and disposed of according to regulations.
Resource Conservation:
Implement initiatives to reduce resource consumption (e.g., water, energy).
Promote the use of sustainable materials and practices.
Training and Awareness:
Conduct training programs to educate staff on environmental policies and best practices.
Raise awareness about environmental issues and promote a culture of sustainability.
Incident Management:
Investigate and respond to environmental incidents and emergencies.
Document incidents and implement measures to prevent recurrence.
Data Collection and Reporting:
Collect, analyze, and report on environmental performance data.
Prepare detailed reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Sustainability Initiatives:
Develop and lead sustainability projects that align with organizational goals.
Collaborate with other departments to integrate sustainability into business operations.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, community groups, and industry associations.
Represent the organization at environmental forums and conferences.
Qualification, Experiences and Competencies
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, sustainability, or a related field.
Advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., Certified Environmental Professional (CEP), ISO 14001 certification) are advantageous.
Experience:
Several years of experience in environmental management, compliance, or a related field.
Proven experience in conducting environmental audits, assessments, and managing sustainability projects.
Technical Skills:
Strong knowledge of environmental laws, regulations, and standards.
Proficiency with environmental management systems (EMS) and software.
Ability to analyze and interpret environmental data.
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
Excellent analytical skills to identify trends and areas for improvement.
Strong problem-solving abilities to develop and implement effective solutions.
Communication Skills:
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to prepare detailed reports, deliver presentations, and communicate complex information clearly.
Attention to Detail:
High level of accuracy in assessments, reporting, and documentation.
Ability to identify and address potential environmental risks.
Organizational Skills:
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
Interpersonal Skills:
Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with various stakeholders.
Ability to influence and motivate employees to adhere to environmental practices.
