Job Description
Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) is a non-profit biomedical research organization, whose mission is to mitigate disease threats through quality research, health care and disease surveillance. MUWRP was established in 2002 by a Memorandum of Agreement between The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Inc. (HJF) and Makerere University (Mak) undertake medical research to test HIV vaccines. Over the years, MUWRP's portfolio has progressively expanded to include vaccine research for Ebola and Marburg viruses, Emerging Infectious Diseases Program (EIDP) for surveillance of influenza and influenza-like viruses and other emerging infections in humans and animals; also, a PEPFAR funded program in HIV treatment, care and prevention in the districts of Kayunga, Mukono, Buvuma, Buikwe, Luwero, Nakasongola. Additionally. MUWRP seeks to fill the following position.
Contract Tenure: 1 year with a possibility of extension subject to the needs of the Organization
Duties and Responsibilities
. Clinical Care
Patient Examination: Conducting thorough examinations of patients, taking medical histories, and diagnosing illnesses.
Treatment Planning: Developing treatment plans, prescribing medications, and performing medical procedures as needed.
Follow-Up Care: Monitoring patient progress and making necessary adjustments to treatment plans.
Emergency Care
Emergency Response: Providing immediate care for medical emergencies and stabilizing patients in critical conditions.
Triage: Assessing the severity of patient conditions to prioritize treatment.
Supervision and Training
Staff Supervision: Supervising and mentoring junior medical staff, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
Training: Conducting training sessions for healthcare staff on medical procedures, protocols, and patient care practices.
Healthcare Management
Facility Management: Managing the day-to-day operations of healthcare facilities, ensuring efficient service delivery.
Resource Allocation: Overseeing the allocation and utilization of medical resources, including medications, equipment, and supplies.
Health Education and Promotion
Patient Education: Educating patients and their families about medical conditions, treatment options, and preventive measures.
Community Outreach: Participating in community health programs and campaigns to promote public health awareness.
Medical Research
Clinical Research: Conducting clinical research to advance medical knowledge and improve patient care practices.
Data Analysis: Analyzing medical data and research findings to develop new treatment protocols and guidelines.
Administrative Duties
Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate and detailed medical records of patients.
Reporting: Preparing and submitting reports on patient outcomes, treatment efficacy, and healthcare services.
Regulatory Compliance
Policy Adherence: Ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, policies, and ethical standards.
Quality Assurance: Implementing and monitoring quality assurance programs to maintain high standards of patient care.
Qualification, Experiences and Competencies
Medical Degree: A degree in medicine (MBBS, MD, or equivalent) from an accredited medical school.
Residency: Completion of a residency program in a medical specialty, such as internal medicine, surgery, or pediatrics.
Professional Experience
Clinical Experience: Several years of clinical experience in a healthcare setting, including experience in diagnosing and treating a wide range of medical conditions.
Specialized Experience: Experience in a specific medical specialty may be required for certain positions.
Licenses and Certifications
Medical License: A valid medical license to practice medicine in the relevant jurisdiction.
Board Certification: Board certification in a medical specialty may be required or preferred.
