Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
Patient Evaluation and Diagnosis
Initial Consultation: Conducting thorough patient evaluations, including reviewing medical history, performing physical examinations, and ordering diagnostic tests such as X-rays, MRI scans, and blood tests.
Diagnosis: Diagnosing conditions related to the musculoskeletal system, such as fractures, arthritis, deformities, and sports injuries.
Treatment Planning
Developing Treatment Plans: Creating individualized treatment plans based on the patient’s diagnosis and overall health.
Non-Surgical Treatment: Prescribing and managing non-surgical treatments, including medications, physical therapy, and lifestyle modifications.
Surgical Duties
Performing Surgeries
Preoperative Planning: Planning surgical procedures, including selecting appropriate techniques and ensuring all necessary preparations are made.
Conducting Surgeries: Performing a wide range of orthopaedic surgeries, such as joint replacement, arthroscopy, fracture repair, spinal surgery, and reconstructive surgery.
Postoperative Care: Providing postoperative care, including monitoring recovery, managing pain, and preventing complications.
Emergency Surgery
Trauma Surgery: Performing emergency surgeries to treat traumatic injuries, such as fractures and dislocations, often requiring immediate attention.
Patient Care and Follow-Up
Rehabilitation and Recovery
Postoperative Rehabilitation: Coordinating postoperative rehabilitation, including working with physical therapists to develop rehabilitation plans.
Follow-Up Appointments: Conducting follow-up visits to monitor patient recovery, assess treatment effectiveness, and make necessary adjustments.
Patient Education
Educating Patients: Providing patients and their families with information about their condition, treatment options, and postoperative care to ensure they understand the recovery process.
Qualification, Experiences and Competencies
Postgraduate degree in Orthopaedic Surgery from a recognised institution
Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery from a recognised institution
Fully registered with Uganda Medical & Dental Practitioners’ Council
A valid Practicing License
Experience in a busy setting of at least 2 years
